The bumper bracket with the small tabs for the thin, plastic tabs to hook onto from the bumper are so weak and a pain to remove without breaking the bumper tabs. The slide in bracket on the pre-facelift is far simpler and more robust.
Here is the 100% answer. The pre-facelift and the Mtech 1 and 2 bumpers all use the same slider brackets and reinforcer bar. The standard facelift bumpers use the same reiforcer bar but different slider brackets, infact they don't even have sliders. The faclift bumper clip into plastic mounts fixed underneath the fenders and under the rear panel.
While I appreciated the styling of the pre-facelift G30/G31, it was clearly an evolution of the F10/F11 generation. With the advent of the LCI model, the 5 Series is once again in the spotlight.
The reason I said "should be" is because there was a rash of people changing their pre's to post's by changing a host of body panels up front. 2000-2003 is pre-faceliftand 2004-2006 is face liftthis something every e53 owner should know or learnespecially if doing your own mods and DIY work (buying parts etc).
The most rigid E46 chassis is the sedan w/o ski pass-through or sunroof. IIRC, the coupe chassis is something like 12,000 Nm/degree while the sedan is 15,000Nm/degree. The long frameless doors do the coupe chassis no favors as far as handling goes. The E46 M3 coupe chassis is better because it comes with the reinforcements used for the convertible.
