Aveeno Oat gel moisturizer is a great one-- it doesn't have fragrance and is really good for super sensitive skin. Skin fix barrier lipid boost is good if you're trying to avoid irritation by strengthening the skin barrier like what that Toleriane moisturizer does.

Buffering - I would apply my regular moisturizer, then an occlusive (I recommend La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume) and then a light layer of Aquaphor before I applied the retinoid. I would say Aquaphor made the most significant difference, I wasn’t waking up with red and peeling skin, just light dryness.
